What Else?

Suddenly I can pull my hair back into a ponytail. I can't believe I have grown out my short, short hair... This morning I chased my friend down Red & White and crushed the climb out of Miller's Point (how can you not right now? So freaking dry!!)... Wednesday morning ride at French Creek...these opportunities will soon come to an end, but until then, I will be on my bike every chance I get. I want to go to the beach dad said the water was 76 degrees...(I will ignore what my mom said about pieces of jellyfish everywhere..eww). Maybe I'll sell my Redline. Do I need a pit bike after all? Do I?

What's Up, Kim?

Summer is winding down, right? This summer I broke my hand, shamelessly indulged in way too much ice cream (Brown's Cow, why must you exist?), watched my marriage die a slow and strange death, saw Radiohead LIVE, enjoyed a beach vacation with my son, camped at Cape Henlopen, and tried my first endurance race...I've spent most of my time with unexpected friends and with my parents lately...been playing outside with my son as much as possible. I've been riding for fun (mostly with my dad, mostly at Downingtown) with little expectations for cross...just trying to stay fit and get my act together. That's what's up.

Play Outside

Yes, you can ride here!

Me, me, me...

I like cola flavored Shot Bloks after all... It took me eight months to tell my parents of my impending divorce (there, I've said it)... I am afraid and excited to race cross again. My hand feels almost completely normal and healed. If I only participate in endurance races next year, that's fine with me. I am sad to miss Seven Springs. I am anxious about going back to work full-time. I will be okay.

That's It...

Wrapped up my short-lived mtb season this afternoon with six decent laps at Iron Hill. Lap 1: Utter disaster...bungle upon embarrassing bungle...skittish, tentative, considered bailing. Lap 2: Warmed up, felt strong and capable (especially on the climbs) Lap 3: Favorite lap, cleaned everything and rode with confidence Lap 4: More of the same... Lap 5: Felt the heat, felt the aching hand... Lap 6: Walked the last climb because my left hand was completely numb and I was squirreling around all over the place. Began to feel fatigued, though not destroyed. My dad made nutella and honey saltines...the only time I pitted was to simultaneously shed my camelbak, quickly change my gloves, and down the tasty treats. So happy to have ended my brief season on a high note...I don't know where the coming months will take me, with regards to cross, but I feel my fitness coming back little by little. Sigh...

Shocky Ridge

It's electric!!
6 is the Magic Number... "Do it again, Kim." "Okay!"
Rocky Ridge.
Zips and zaps from the humming power lines above..."Dad, what the fu**?!"
So much fun to ride somewhere brand new...everything, every trail, offered countless imaginative lines and fantastic scenery.
(bonus: live Radiohead buzzing in my head from last night's show...I still can't believe I was there...lucky to have friends and family looking out for me)

Soft Pretzels and Water Ice

I just want do a great job... Diablo is living up to that moniker lately... Tiring, frustrating... Sometimes I am just baffled, nearly stretched to my limit...what should I do?? He is freaking cute, though...

Elmwood Park Zoo

I did not expect this little guy to make it as far as he did...
All we had was a bottle of cold water and a pack of Spiderman fruit snacks...
We started on the cross loop and wandered down, down, down...
"You know what this means, right? We're going to have to climb back up, up, up..."
"I know, mommmmm..."

...And No Regrets (another matter entirely)

I will sleep better tonight. I will sleep tonight. A huge, huge, huge weight has been lifted... perhaps heavier than anything I have carried in my life thus far. A little less heartbroken... breathing easier already.

I officially bowed out of 7 Springs just minutes ago...I was all set to be included in a strong 5 person team (as half of the Mudhoneys are with child). Too much going on, too much to sort out on the home front... It's just not meant to be this year. I am sad to be missing summer camp/suffer-fest/mental retreat... I am sad to not be the fifth... Been a strange summer...broken bones, broken cars, broken broken broken. My brother took me out to dinner after work last night...if you liked what you saw (or rather, heard) at the Marysville team relay MASS opener & feel like venturing to the WC, you should most definitely check out the New Kings Friday, Aug.8 at Spence. (he bought dinner, I should at least plug his is, after all, a product I steadfastly endorse). Good times guaranteed

Suntan Ride

My intention was to pedal solo, meander over to the CCC loop, get the feel for my road bike again... But, Brian was all, "You want to trail ride??" Trail ride?? You mean, like, mountain bike? So, any time anybody wants to try it, I am a sucker for playing tour guide. I love it. Do you love it, too? We started at his house and linked up several bike paths along the canal and then the river... Found ourselves on the twisty, flat Betzwood trails...Admittedly, Brian was out of his element, but more than showed up nonetheless. I hope he had fun. So, I like the Guru's husband-to-be. Next time, she rides with us.

Another Reason the Golden Monkey Tastes Sooo Good...

As we neared the lake, wrapping up a super-fun ride, my dad said, "So, how do you feel mentally?" The answer was a resounding, "Great..." I mean, I have nothing to be afraid of, I am still unsure what happened or if there was something I could have done to avoid my crash... So, mentally, I was braced to hurt on the climbs (hurt myself, not the the climbs)...I was braced to fall into old habits like unclipping for the rock gardens or any obstacle higher than my...ankle. It's not like I was riding with any finesse. Or aplomb. Nope, definitely not... But, I was having fuuuuuuun. So much fun... Didn't put a foot down until we got to a little piece of nastiness that I have yet to clean anyway... Didn't unclip or suffer terribly on anything uphill... Didn't slow down when I absolutely should have (and I have deep, deep scratches on my right arm to punctuate that sentiment...)... The gnats were insane, the turtle trail was horrifically overgrown with the sharpest thorns and brambles I've seen all summer, and we barely outsmarted a hornet the size of my nephew. So. Much. Fun. so great to be baaaaaaack.
