old school

I've been on a music-buying binge lately...not downloads, actual cds...something I can hold in my hand & stack next to my stereo (not the ipod dock)...something with liner notes & photos... I've also been writing in a journal again...pen & paper. like every day. I sent a former coworker a note in the mail, just to say I was thinking of her & hello (I miss some of those girls). don't worry, I still don't want to talk on the phone.

i hate to show up empty-handed...

nothing like a rainy day road ride on rigid mountain bikes to shake off the evils of a saturday night. funny how i was beating myself up about all beer I consumed last night...(all 3, not even, actually). i met some (kind of) new people & wasn't entirely the shy one that i often claim to be. the birthday cake was fluffy & pink, but i was secretly too nervous to eat anything (except for one vanilla Joe Joe, which pairs very well with Golden Monkey). i wanted to stay in bed & be lazy today...the past week (+) has been nothing short of a whirlwind & i'm just trying to figure it out. (or not)...
friends & family were at Bean's yesterday in full force...we had our grand opening & it was pretty freaking awesome.

baker's dozen

I am pretty destroyed following 56 miles on some of the most fun, twisty, & fast (man, that was fast) single track I've ever ridden...pretty destroyed from too much fun on my bike.
The best part is that even by lap seven, I finished with a smile on my face.
You know why?
Cause I was part of a kickass team & all I wanted to do was give it my best & have fun again.
C3 Puss in Boots...a team put together hastily after a beer (or two) too many at the MAC Prom by none other than Fatmarc. Me, Marc, & could I say no?
I had no expectations for this race (other than world domination, of course) & I wasn't sure how I'd hold up after my dismal experience at Fair Hill...yes, it felt great to be on a winning team, but even better, it's great to feel like I belong on a mountain bike again.
C3 had an amazing showing...not just results-wise, but the support & camaraderie is pretty freaking remarkable.
thanks to Strawberry Quik & Tiger Balm, I feel almost human today.

don't call it a comeback...

Yesterday, I discovered I don't like mountain racing anymore.
At all.
My result was respectable, conditions were perfect, the course was fun & flowy...
so I don't really understand why I was left feeling so disgruntled & down.
Usually, after an effort like that, I am too amped & euphoric to relax or chill out...
yesterday, I dumped my bags at the front door & slumped into bed for a grumpy nap-coma til it was time to pick up my son.
I was too destroyed to go back downstairs & turn off the lights last night.
Good thing I'm doing a thirteen hour (team) mountain bike race next...
(but, that will be FUN!)

Like the belt?
Kickass Michelin road tire reinvented...thanks, dad!
Now I am 35.
Doesn't bother me in the least...why would it?
This is going to be a good year.

daffodils (proof)

ater work yesterday, I busted out a few laps at downingtown. daffodils & buttercups everywhere. it's one of my favorite things about the first few (real) weeks of spring...every year, the same spots on pieces of my favorite trails there offer proof that yes, indeed, spring has sprung. there must have been half a dozen families hiking and riding in the woods yesterday early evening...nice. today is Easter. right about now, I imagine my son is discovering a pretty hefty basket filled with yellow chick peeps, smarties, jelly beans, a giant chocolate bunny, and some goofy toys...I'll encourage him to enjoy all the candy at his dad's. Easter dinner will be a big, casual grill-fest at my parents...hop devils, burgers, ribs, friends & family, kids running wild. Maybe even fireworks. Times have changed since grandmom and GG's passing, but the new traditions are good. Like fireworks on pretty much every holiday...just because. (way more exciting than lamb-shaped butter)
